About
Service Tasmania facilitates applications for National Police Record Checks, providing a record of police history held across all Australian states and territories. This service is commonly required for employment, licensing, volunteering, and other purposes where proof of an individual’s criminal history is needed.
Key Information:
- National Police Record Checks cover all Australian states and territories.
- A police check is eligible for a discounted volunteer rate if applying for volunteer or charity work, subject to organisation eligibility.
- Tasmania Police does not conduct checks for overseas applicants or Australian immigration purposes; such checks should be applied for via the Australian Federal Police.
- Applications are made in person by submitting a completed form at a Service Tasmania Service Centre, where applicants also sign the consent in front of a representative.
- Fingerprint checks and combined police record and fingerprint checks require contacting Criminal History Services directly.
How to Apply:
- Obtain and complete the application form (PDF available on the website).
- Provide proof of identity with original documents: one commencement document, one primary document, and one secondary document. Identity documents must verify full legal name, date of birth, and include a photograph.
- Bring the completed form and identity documents to a Service Tasmania Service Centre to lodge your application and pay the applicable fee.
- If applying for the volunteer rate, section 5 of the form must be completed by an authorised officer from your volunteer organisation beforehand.
Additional Information:
- If under 16 years old, a guardian must witness the application.
- Applicants from other states or territories should contact their local police.
- Police checks are not sent to overseas addresses.
This service offers a reliable way for Tasmanians to obtain official national police record checks tailored for employment, volunteering, licensing, and more, ensuring compliance with legal and administrative requirements.
